Resources for energy coaches
EnergyMate provides free resources for community organisations looking to provide support and advice to their clients about energy use in their homes.
Between 2019 and 2025, EnergyMate ran a community-based programme where trained and equipped coaches would go into people’s homes and educate them about their energy use. The programme educated those who were struggling with energy costs about their home and appliances, electricity use, and power bill. EECA’s Supporting Energy Education in Communities and the Healthy Homes Initiatives operate similar programmes in the community.
While EnergyMate’s in-home coaching is no longer available, the resources and guides that energy coaches used during these home visits are available for use. Community organisations that provide financial mentoring or financial coaching may want to use these resources to help inform their own advice and services.
It’s important to note that anyone providing energy advice or in-home visits should have a technical understanding of home performance, appropriate health and safety training, and be responsive to the different needs of different whānau. These resources should be used as a guide only, and community organisations are responsible for the services they provide. All EnergyMate trained coached completed the online Home Performance Advisor training programme.
